“On the world’s seven Pawikan species, five can be found in the Philippines. Four of the country’s species are found in the province of Romblon namely leatherback turtle, hawksbill turtle, green turtle, and olive ridley turtle. The last three mentioned turtles nest in the sandy areas of these two municipalities.   The Philippine Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act or R.A. 9147 of 2001 prohibits the hunting, selling and killing and collection of the eggs of endangered species like Pawikan.”
